Beijing Queer Chorus performing with PGMC

March 12, 2018 by Kurt Bedell

The Beijing Queer Chorus has arrived in Portland! The 18 singing members of the first public performing LGBT chorus in China are in Portland and will be performing with PGMC for this weekend’s Pacific Voices concerts at Reed College. But before they do, they have an amazing introduction to Portland ahead of them thanks to generous members of our community. Tea at the Lan Su Chinese Garden. A Portland Trail Blazers game. A performance for 400 students at Grant High School (Portland, Oregon). And much more. What a week! They also each got a sweet Travel Oregon backpack created by Poler Stuff filled with all kinds of goodies. If you haven’t yet gotten your tickets to experience their historic visit, now is the time!

Seven Last Words of the Unarmed

Michael Brown. Trayvon Martin. Oscar Grant. Eric Garner. Kenneth Chamberlain. Amadou Diallo. John Crawford.

These African-American men–each killed by police or by authority figures–are the subject of a powerful multi-movement choral work — Seven Last Words of the Unarmed — that will be part of the Portland Gay Men's Chorus What Unites Us concert this Sunday afternoon.

This is a powerful and important work, especially in these times. The Chorus is proud to be collaborating with 10 area non-profits who will benefit from concert proceeds.

Hope to see you there.
